Working as a transcriptionist has many perks. Since the demand will rarely die, there’s a good amount of money to be made. Transcribe Anywhere is one such product that offers high-quality video training (among some of the best we’ve auditioned).

What Is Rev.com?

The website provides translation and video transcription services to people around the world. Rev has been in business since 2009 and is known to provide services to companies like Comcast. They have won several accolades for their services and have been featured on platforms like WSJ.

Pen, Notebook, And Laptop

That being said, the income potential is clearly limited with these jobs. Nothing against the program yet, but the work-to-reward ratio isn’t the best in this case considering the hours you’ll put in. Unless you could really benefit from $2-4 per hour, this isn’t for you.

It sure can make for a nice little side hustle, but it’s hardly life-changing money/passive income. Here’s what some of the company’s ex-employees have to say:

It’s apparent from the above testimonials the employees didn’t have a very good time offering their services on the platform. If you could use a few extra bucks, you may want to consider legitimate survey websites like American Consumer Opinion and Radial Insight.

The platform is legit regardless and actually pays. They also have an active Facebook page with images of their current and ex-staff.

However, there still is a hard cap on how much money you can make with these.

Rev Transcription Jobs

With Rev, you can do one or more of the following tasks:

  • Providing video captions
  • Providing transcriptions
  • Providing video subtitles
  • Translating text (can be an advantage if you’re bilingual)

Your job is to listen to audio and type everything you hear. It will probably be used as subtitles in a video to aid people who prefer reading over listening. The pay scale isn’t the best either. Don’t expect to make more than $5 an hour working these jobs (as is evident from the above reviews).

Things We Liked

  • Work-from-home jobs, flexible timings
  • Good if you’re bilingual and looking to bank on the fact.
  • If your typing speed is above average, this is a huge bonus.
  • No automatic assignment – you are free to select a job of your choice and proceed accordingly.
  • Legit website – has won numerous rewards and has been in business for over a decade.

Things We Didn’t Like

  • Critical reviews far outweigh positive ones.
  • Slightly unfair assessment rules – pay depends more on your speed and accuracy than skills.
  • Work is inconsistent – don’t expect new jobs every hour/every day. Availability varies.
  • Minuscule pay. If you have something better to do for the time you’ll put in, do that instead.

Is Rev.com a Scam?

No, Rev is not a scam. Even if you consider all the negative reviews for the platform, you still can’t ignore the fact that the website pays all its users on time. That being said, don’t expect to make a ton of money working as a transcriptionist.

Thumbs Down Icon

The company has also won dozens of awards from reputable websites like PCMag. Considering everything (mixed bag of reviews, company’s background), we can confidently say they’re legit. However, we still can’t recommend them because of the minuscule pay they offer.
